Embroidery taught with calm British care
A needlecraft house, not a sewing factory
Merrow & Vale Ltd was founded by Harriet Merrow in Bath to teach embroidery and hand stitching properly — hoop work, crewel, sashiko, goldwork introductions and slow stitching — without the rush of garment production or machine noise.
Our Quiet Street studio is small on purpose. Six students, good linen, patient tuition and room to breathe between stitches. Whether you are lifting a needle for the first time or returning to textile craft after years away, you are welcome.

Hand over machine
We specialise in embroidery and needlecraft. You will not find garment construction or industrial sewing machines here.
Materials that matter
We favour linen, crewel wool, sashiko cotton and reputable UK/EU suppliers so projects feel good in the hand.
Safety with sharp tools
Needles and scissors are part of the craft. We teach safe handling and expect every student to follow studio guidance.
Slow is serious
Progress is measured in confidence and even stitches, not speed. Take the work home and keep practising.
