Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 13 August 2026
These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of merrowandvale.org and the embroidery, needlecraft and hand-stitching workshops operated by Merrow & Vale Ltd ("we", "us", "our"). By using this website or booking a workshop, you agree to these Terms.
1. About Us
Merrow & Vale Ltd is a company registered in England and Wales (Company Number 15184729, VAT GB918472635) with registered office at 18 Quiet Street, Bath, BA1 2JX, United Kingdom. Director: Harriet Merrow. Share capital: £50,000.
2. Website Purpose
This website provides information about embroidery and needlecraft education, workshop schedules, studio services and related educational content. Prices shown are in GBP and may be updated from time to time.
3. Bookings and Confirmation
Workshop places are limited (typically a maximum of six students). A booking is confirmed when we accept your enquiry and payment (or deposit) as agreed in writing by email. Until then, availability is not guaranteed.
You must provide accurate contact details so we can send joining instructions and safety notes.
4. Materials and Kits
Unless stated otherwise, open workshops include the materials needed for the taught project. Private tuition, group bookings and take-home kits may be charged separately. You are responsible for tools you bring from home and for following any material care instructions we provide.
5. Studio Safety — Needles, Scissors and Sharp Tools
Embroidery involves needles, pins, scissors, frames and occasionally metal threads with sharp ends. By attending you agree to:
- Follow tutor instructions on safe handling and disposal of needles
- Keep scissors closed when not in use and pass tools handle-first
- Report injuries or hazards immediately to studio staff
- Supervise any accompanying adults as required; children may only attend where expressly agreed in writing
- Avoid attending if you cannot safely handle sharp tools without assistance unless arrangements are agreed in advance
Participation is at your own risk to the extent permitted by UK law. We maintain reasonable studio safety practices but cannot eliminate all craft-related risks.
6. Cancellations, Changes and Refunds
Please see our Refund Policy for full detail. In summary:
- Student cancellations with at least 7 days' notice may be rescheduled or refunded as set out in the Refund Policy
- Late cancellations or non-attendance may forfeit fees
- If we cancel a workshop, we will offer a transfer or full refund of fees paid for that session
7. Student Conduct
We expect respectful behaviour toward tutors and fellow makers. We may refuse or end a session without refund (subject to consumer law) if conduct is abusive, unsafe or disruptive.
8. Intellectual Property
Website text, branding, photographs, class designs and printed handouts are owned by or licensed to Merrow & Vale Ltd. You may keep your own stitched work and personal notes. You may not copy, sell or commercially teach our class designs, patterns or handouts without prior written consent.
9. Educational Nature and Outcomes
Workshops are educational. Skill acquisition and project finish quality vary with attendance, practice and prior experience. We do not guarantee professional embroidery qualification or commercial outcomes.
10. Limitation of Liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be limited under UK law.
Subject to that, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, or damage to personal belongings left unattended in the studio. Our total liability arising from a booking is limited to the fees you paid for the relevant workshop or service.
11. Privacy and Cookies
Personal data is handled as described in our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.
12. Third-Party Links
Links to suppliers or external resources are for convenience. We are not responsible for third-party websites, products or services.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms periodically. The version posted on this page applies to new bookings from the stated last-updated date. Continued website use after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms for website use.
14. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, without prejudice to mandatory consumer rights where applicable.
